哲学の道は、閣寺と南禅寺の間を結ぶ、約2kmに渡る散歩道で、脇を流れる運河は琵琶湖から引かれた疎水である。
哲学者の西田幾太郎が、毎朝この道を歩いて思想に耽っていたことにちなんで名付けられた。
いつの季節も趣深いが、桜の時期は特に美しく、道沿いのソメイヨシノが道沿いを彩る。
